Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has yet to comment on the claim by Indian Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, that he has requested that India send 100,000 more Indians to Australia to build 1,000,000 new dwellings (see video embedded below as an appendix). This is supposed to solve the housing crisis created by Albanese himself adding 1,223,896 to Australia's population since 2022 with a massive increase in immigration. This has caused the median price of an Australian dwelling to reach $1,020,000 - a figure beyond what even two people with middle-class incomes can afford, let alone workers on whose behalf the Labor Party is supposedly governing. How is this not a betrayal of ordinary Australians? On top of that we now seem to be faced with the prospect of vastly greater numbers immigrating from India in coming months and years, in what is almost an open-borders policy towards India.[1] Given the massive disparity in the respective populations of our two countries 1,451,000,000 vs 27,200,000 - if high immigration is to continue, it would take little time before Australia's current inhabitants were to become a small and impoverished minority.

NOTES
[1] Recent Agreements with India affecting Migration
Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement (May 2023): This agreement enhances cooperation in education and business sectors, facilitating more movement for Indian students and professionals.
Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES): Beginning in December 2024, this initiative allows Indian graduates and early-career professionals from eligible universities to apply for temporary visas to live and work in Australia for up to two years.
Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA): This trade agreement also includes commitments related to post-study work visas and the movement of professionals. In summary, Australia has implemented specific measures and agreements to increase the legal, two-way flow of people and mobility between the two countries, particularly in education and skilled sectors. Since the population volume is in India, the pressure is very unequal.
Family Reunion: In Australia's current permanent Migration Program, the Family stream is allocated approximately 28% of the total permanent visa places. There is a big backlog, particularly for Parent visas, with over 155,000 applications as of April 2025. Note that people hoping to bring their family to join them here have a vested interest in keeping immigration high by not criticising the numbers. The ALP has traditionally been very big on family reunion.
Converting from temporary to permanent: There are a number of ways for temporary visa holders to convert to permanent residency in Australia, including skilled migration pathways and the National Innovation visa, and family reunion.
Temporary Immigrants can purchase Australian property: Temporary immigrants can purchase property in Australia, but they are currently subject to a temporary ban on buying established dwellings from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027. However, they can still purchase in new developments. The can also apply to develop vacant land, subject to approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).
